Dr. Lawrence W. Long’s vision to educate and empower those facing life's challenges.

Service Pillars - FHHEEEL

Food

The Center has hosted food distribution drives in partnership with local organizations who provided boxes of food during COVID. Using the parking lot, individuals could obtain food from the safety of their vehicle reducing chances of exposure.

Economic Development

In partnership with the UCCRP, the Center hosted entrpreneurs at every UCCRP JUNETEENTH Remembrance and Celebration including Robin Foster, noted author and genealogist.

Life Skills

We greatly appreciate entities like the NAACP and the Union County Democratic Party who have educated individuals about the importance of voting and civic service as non-profit vendors at every UCCRP JUNETEENTH.

Health

Mental health providers participated in the first UCCRP JUNETEENTH Remembrance and Celebration 2021. As the event venue, the Center helped to provide indoor and outdoor facility support for this and other health initiatives including breast cancer screening.

Education

The ongoing relationship with the Friends on Main Bookstore (Friends of the Library) and the UCCRP has ensured the Center continues to provide a space to educate patrons through literature, workshops and educational tours.

Housing

Difficult financial times have resulted in individuals and families needing help to cover expenses. The Center hosted a workshop with the Academic Technology and Wellness Academy to provide application assistance to Union residents to pay for rent and utilities under the SC Stay Plus program.

Employment

Agencies utilized the Center to host to recruit in and around Union. These include; the State Park Service, the Department of Corrections, and Kingdom Dispatch & Logistics, LLC.
